Chora Church (Kariye Camii)
Chora Church of Istanbul, otherwise known as Kariye Camii, is one of the ancient sites famous for beautiful Byzantine murals and mosaics. First built in the fourth century near the city walls as a church, it was turned into a mosque during the Ottoman rule and recently as a museum. The ornate work inside reflects early days Christian art since the interiors are vibrantly colored with scenes from the Bible and other themes featuring saints.
This place is a must-visit by anybody who wants to learn of the history of Byzantium and its arts since the architectural beauties and historical relevance are based here.
