Deir-Al-Zafaran (Saffron Monastery)

Situated in southeastern Turkey, in the old city of Mardin, is the historic Syriac Orthodox monastery called Deir-Al-Zafaran. Founded in the 5th century as one of the major religious centers, it served through the centuries as a residence for the bishops. Typical in design for such a very ancient and spiritually important monastery is a peaceful courtyard and rich stone carvings.

Deir-Al-Azafaran still remains a house of prayer and is one of the main attractions to visitors seeking to know the cultural heritage of the land.
