Demre (Myra)

Demre is a district in Antalya Province of Turkey, most famous for its historical places and ruins from the ancient city of Myra and the Church of St. Nicholas. Especially during the Roman and Byzantine Empires, the city was seen as a great political and economic force.

 By the 4th century of our era, it was known as the residence and working place of St. Nicholas.The “father” of the Christmas tradition, Santa Claus, was reputed for his acts of kindness. That's why, Myra attracts most of pilgrims. It is one of the preferred places for exploring remains of ancient civilizations and the legacy of St. Nicholas.
