Hierapolis Cathedral
Hierapolis Cathedral is an important early Christian building, situated in the ancient city of Hierapolis, which is in the area of the present-day Pamukkale, in Turkey. The cathedral was constructed in the 5th century AD, the time when Hierapolis was becoming a leading region for early Christianity. There are three naves and a middle apse in the central part of the Cathedral which is built on the plans of a basilica . It is believed that the cathedral served as the principal church for the countless Christian.
Hierapolis itself was one of the cities with an early Christian bishopric and the cathedral represented the importance of the particular city in the Christian faith. Now, the remains of the Hierapolis Cathedral along with other historic buildings of the ancient city draws a number of tourists who are interested in learning about the history and religious beliefs of ancient Turkey.
