Karakus Tumulus (Monumental Tomb)
Among the ancient burial mounds related to the Commagene Kingdom is the Karakus Tumulus (Monumental Tomb) in Adıyaman Province. It is an amazing monument erected in the honor of the royal family; its huge stone columns are topped by animal carvings. The place received the name because of the statue of an eagle sitting on one column, symbolizing strength and protectorship.
Today, the Karakus Tumulus stands as an open testimony to the greatness of its founders as far as architecture goes, not mentioning the rich history that happened here.
