Kayakoy (Ghost Village)

The ghost village of Kayakoy, so called by locals, located near the abandoned coast of Fethiye in Turkey. Established in the eighteenth century, this settlement became a good Greek Orthodox community until the Greco-Turkish War and the 1920s population exchange left it abandoned. With buildings, churches, and streets still intact, this all-but-stone community is chilling yet enlightening to glimpse through.

Today, Kayakoy is an extremely popular tourist destination and a sobering reminder of the historical and cultural upheavals that took place in this area.
