Maiden’s Tower

Maiden's Tower, or Kız Kulesi, is one of the major historical sites located on a small islet on the Bosphorus. The tower has served since ancient times, first as a watchtower, then as a lighthouse, and later as a tower. It has a unique scenery with the wide view of both the Bosphorus and the skyline of Istanbul. One of the most popular legends surrounding the Maiden’s Tower is that of a Byzantine emperor who had a great concern for his daughter. He built the tower with the hopes that it would protect her from a prediction which foretold a snake would kill her one day. However, a prophecy came true when a snake inside a basket of fruits managed to get to the princess.

Tales like these tend to mystify the tower and explain one of the many reasons it was named so. Today, the Maiden's Tower is a popular restaurant and a spot for tourists, offering a unique perspective on the loveliness and history of the city.
