Myra Ancient City
Myra Ancient City is located in Demre, Turkey. It is considered as one the most important cities of Lycia. It is most famous due to its remarkable hewn rock tombs, an ancient theater, as well as being associated with Saint Nicholas, who was the basis for the Christmas figure. The other major feature of interest is the well-preserved Roman theater.
It was also associated with St. Nicholas and played an important role in ancient Lycia. Beginning in the 7th century CE, Myra’s decline commenced due to the influx of Arab settlers, the port becoming increasingly silted, and even the impact of forces of nature, and was ultimately abandoned.
