Pergamon Ancient City
This old city called Pergamon Ancient City in the modern Bergama of Turkey was one of the famed cities in its time, known for Acropolis, Great Alter, and Pergamon Library. The city’s position on top of a hill served as an advantage for them as a center of cultural, intellectual, and architectural pursuits. During Roman times, Pergamum became part of the Roman Empire and was the center of the province of Asia.
Pergamon Ancient City contained a theater, an agora, and a famous Medical Center of Healing which was dedicated to Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. The multi-faceted character of the city incorporated Greek, Roman and Anatolian attributes making it a representation of the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean Sea.
