Zeus Temple

Laodicea's most important temple, in the opinion of its locals, was and still is the Temple of Zeus which is located in the ancient city of Laodicia. As it is now, in Turkey and close to the Thermae Pamukkale travertine terraces. In the context of the Laodicean culture of worship, the temple of Zeus was crucial to the people. 

 Although smaller in size than the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, this temple was also very important for the Laodiceans as Zeus was still the main deity worshipped at this temple. The temple not only served as a place for religious ceremonies but also was a meeting spot for its citizens. The remains of the temple and the rest of the preserved buildings in Laodicea reflect social and religious informations as well as contextual analysis of the architecture at that time.
